Nuggets of Wisdom

  • The whole dispensation of the Spirit, the whole economy of grace in Christ Jesus, the whole of our spiritual lives, and the whole of the health, growth, and strength of the church has been laid down, provided for, and secured in the New Covenant. - Andrew Murray
  • Build your character. Learn to forgive, to be diligent, to be honest. Learn to stay steady and faithful, to keep commitments, to go by what you know and not necessarily by what you feel. - Wayne Cordeiro
  • To have God speak to the heart is a majestic experience, an experience that people may miss if they monopolize the conversation and never pause to hear God's responses. - Charles Stanley
  • Each time, before you intercede, be quiet first, and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how He delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ, and expect great things! - Andrew Murray

1. Glorious Father, I ask that you give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I may know you better.  I pray that the eyes of my heart may be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which you have called me, that I may know the riches of your glorious inheritance in the saints, and that I may know your incomparably great power for me who believes. (Eph 1:17-19) Download the audio or listen to this prayer

2. Almighty God, I pray that out of your glorious riches you may strengthen me with power through your Spirit in my inner being, so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith.  And I pray that I, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the your holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of you.  (Eph 3:16-19) Download the audio or listen to this prayer

Powerful Prayers you can pray everyday to change your life!

I have been reading the epistles lately and have discovered (again) they are full of powerful prayers. I took six of these prayers and personalized them so that you and I can pray these prayers for ourselves everyday. There is absolutely nothing more powerful than praying Scripture back to the Father!

How to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit

"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit." Eph 5:18 AMP

This will be an ongoing blog entry.  I will continue to add to it as I progress in writing the book on how to continually be filled with the Holy Spirit.

For now, it will be a place to store my research to date and for me to share this research with other.

Below is a list of activities the Holy Spirit gave me during a time of prayer.  I'm sure their will be other things I will add to the list over time but these are things you and I can do every day to be ever filled with the Holy Spirit.  They are in no particular order...

What's on your heart?

Do you want to know what is on your heart at any given moment?  Then open your eyes!  Whatever you are focusing on at any point in time is what is primarily on your heart. Our eyes and our attention will focus on what is in our heart.  If we are hungry, we will focus on (look at, consider, think about, plan to get) food.  If we are thirsty for water, the same thing will happen.  If we crave approval, love, excitement, money, pleasure, things, etc., these will be what our eyes, mind, will, and emotions (body and soul) will focus on.

Overcoming the strongholds of doubt and unforgiveness

I read in Joyce Meyer's book Battlefield of the Mind - Teen Edition that, at one point, she struggled with whether or not her dreams and vision of her ministry were ever real. Her mind was attacked with doubt and unbelief.

A true story about the power of a loving word

It was the last game of the season. My son was very young and just starting to learn how to play soccer. I was excitedly watching and cheering from the sidelines along with my wife and my Mom when all of a sudden, my son accidentally kicked the ball in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, the ball went in the wrong goal! He came off the field heartbroken and fell into my arms and cried. As I held him I gently said, "Everyone makes mistakes. The difference between everyone and a champion is that champions don't give up. A few minutes later he went back into the game and scored two goals for his team!!!

A vision of God

During a time of prayer at a Church in Shrewsbury, PA I had a vision of God the father leaning over, with His arms stretched out toward earth.  I could tell He was straining to reach further and had a look of intense longing.  He was desiring to touch people with His love and power.  Obviously, God's arms are not too short (Isa 59:1) and He does touch people with His love and power but His earnest desire is for you and me to extend his reach.  He wants our arms to extend His love and power to all we come in contact with.

Jesus said "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." John 14:12 (NIV)

Standing on God’s Word

After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide: "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Great Sea on the west. No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them.

Project Rescue

Project RescueSeveral years ago, Missionary David Grant visited my church and told us about the human trafficking that is abounding in India.  I was overwhelmed with sorrow and even now, I feel sick to my stomach as I think about what he said.
Please read about Project Rescue and consider how you might play a part in rescuing one of these little girls. - John

The True Vine

by Andrew Murray

Meditations for a Month on John 15:1-16

I have felt drawn to try to write what young Christians might easily apprehend, as a help to them to take up that position in which the Christian life must be a success. It is as if there is not one of the principal temptations and failures of the Christian life that is not met here. The nearness, the all-sufficiency, the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus, the naturalness, the fruitfulness of a life of faith, are so revealed, that it is as if one could with confidence say, Let the parable enter into the heart, and all will be right. May the blessed Lord give the blessing. May He teach us to study the mystery of the Vine in the spirit of worship, waiting for God’s own teaching.

Spiritual Attack

God Loves You!

Job 7:17 - "What is man that you make so much of him, that you give him so much attention,

Psalms 42:8 - By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me--a prayer to the God of my life.

Psalms 47:4 - He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom he loved. Selah

Psalms 63:3 - Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

Psalms 78:61-62 - He sent [the ark of] his might into captivity, his splendor into the hands of the enemy.  He gave his people over to the sword; he was very angry with his inheritance.

A Prayer of a Husband & Wife

Keep us, O Lord, from pettiness.

Help us to put away pretense, and face each other in deep trust without fear or self-pity.

Help us to guard against faultfinding, and be quick to discover the best in each other and in every situation.

Guard us from ill temper and hasty judgment; encourage us to take time for all things, to grow calm, serene and gentle.

Help us to be generous with kind words and compliments.

Teach us never to ignore, never to hurt, and never to take each other for granted.

Engrave charity and compassion on our hearts.

Amen.

Warfare Prayer

Dr. Matthews composed the "Warfare Prayer". As a theologian, his unique thorough way of including sound doctrine in this prayer is most helpful. I would urge anyone facing obvious spiritual warfare to use this prayer daily. It is good to read it aloud as a prayer unto the Lord. Eventually one will be able to incorporate the doctrinal truths expressed into his own prayer life without reading it.

The devil hates this prayer. Usually before working with anyone who has deep demonic affliction, I will request that we read this prayer in unison. Many times the oppressed one can read only with great difficulty. Sometimes sight problems, voice problems, or mind confusion become so intense that the afflicted person can continue only with great effort. It is the truth of God that Satan cannot resist, and he vigorously fights it being applied against him. Those serious about warfare should daily use a prayer of this type.

When demons tremble

WHEN DEMONS TREMBLE (An Encouragement to Overcome)
by Ralph Mahoney, Director of World Missionary Assistance Plan in Burbank, CA. Edited by M D Milton, with quotations from "May Your Name be Inscribed in the Book of Life," a Messianic Jewish version of the New Covenant Scriptures, published 1979 by Thomas Nelson, Inc., Nashville. Old Covenant quotations from the King James Version.

Who we are in Christ and who he is in us

Romans 6

1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.

6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--

7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

The baptism in/of/with the Holy Spirit

The Baptism in the Holy SpiritThis document seeks to address the questions, "Is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit a separate and distinct event from the entrance of the Holy Spirit into a person’s life at the time of conversion?" and "Is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit evidenced by speaking in tongues?"

Introduction

When someone is born again, they are baptized into the body of Christ. "For we were all baptized by [NIV note: or with; or in] one Spirit into one body…" (I Cor 12:13) All Christians have the Holy Spirit. "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?" (I Cor 16:9) Let’s take a look at a few scriptures from the book of Acts.
